It really pisses me off when people who believe themselves to be "superior artists/writers/creators/whatever" talk down on people. Then, just to rub it in, they feel insulted when those people respond poorly. Well what the hell did you expect?

I suck, OK? Have you seen the stuff I draw for this show? It's off-model and awful. I just don't have a decent enough grasp on the style. Guess what: neither do you. Every single person who wants to "help" sucks at the DP style. You're all wonderful artists, but you each have noticeable flaws. Stop denying that. We call that "incorporating our own style into our work," and it's something we can't help but do. (Honestly, sometimes this improves the original style.)

Every fan character ever created sucks. They do. It doesn't matter how many times you update them, you're not skilled enough to design a really amazing character. Even the creators of the shows have made atrocities. They are cliched, unbelievable, boring. I've created total shit too, I assure you.

I have a point, I swear. This is not just one big insult-fest.

We all suck. But we're all improving. At our own rate. It's nice, isn't it? Looking back on old works and realizing how far you've come. Emphasis on how far YOU have come. The more we draw, write, and create, the more we discover what works and what doesn't. Accidents become your new favorite technique. Bad habits are realized and eliminated. The work of others becomes inspiration. We all have personal art histories, and our styles have evolved over time; looking back we have the knowledge that it's our evolution.

Don't ruin someone else's artistic process. You probably didn't have a bunch of insane, "matured" artists breathing down your neck telling you "n ono no whawt the fuck is that noo." It's intimidating. Let new artists breath and learn on their own. Advice giving is one thing; there's nothing wrong with letting people benefit from what you've figured out. But chasing down artists to insult them, posting their pictures on websites to make fun of them, and doing anything possible to knock them down: it makes for a terrible learning environment.

You're on the internet. Whatever you post has a chance of being insulted. But you don't have to be that person.

I don't know if any of you are computer savvy?? (Because I sure as hell am not. My version of fixing a problem is smacking the screen.) I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS4 and as soon as it starts up I get a blue screen that says something about new hardware/software that the computer thinks is sucky (or something). You should also note that I am the worst computer user ever and I generally have 20+ tabs open at a time, three being videos, plus whatever other program I'm using (microsoft/notepad/whatever).
Actually, I think this is just my computer's revenge so there's no way for anyone to help me. After years of abuse, I cannot blame it for wanting to watch me suffer.

I wanted to  use my xmas journal. But I forgot my sub ran out.

I have been so lazy lately that I actually feel guilty about it. I did nothing progressive this weekend; the only highlights I can think of were "television" and "internet." Also I've been confessing my love to my cat a lot recently. She is a spectacular creature. And she's been really sweet for the past few weeks - she actually comes up to me while I'm sitting on the floor and lays right next to me. If I'm lucky she'll paw at my legs and it is SO ADORABLE.


Today was so great. My mom walked in at 5am (I don't get up until six) to tell me there's a 2hr delay due to fog. So I slept in until 8. THEN, I was greeted by my mom and my sister. They usually wake up after me. I'm the first one up in my house, so my mornings are lonesome until my dad emerges from the master bedroom to drive me to a friend's house (whose mother is my ride to school). That was nice. THEN, I go into the kitchen to grab some breakfast. I never get to eat breakfast. There's no time and I'm nauseous at 6:30. THEN, I turned on the TV because guess what: at eight o' clock My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comes on. So I got to watch two episodes. THEN, all of my classes were shortened and easy and fun and ohmygosh today was just so great.

I'm going to snuggle with my cat before heading downstairs to eat. GUDBII GUISE

I HAD A GOOD DAY.

Auditions for chorus solos were today. My voice has been blegh since I was sick last week, so I was wary but thought "what the heck, I'll try it." It wasn't as nerve-wracking as I thought and (although I couldn't hear myself) I felt pretty confident. I mentioned I was sick, and then proceeded to have a coughing spell. Always a good way to start.

BUT, after I finished, my class clapped for me. And cheered. And were impressed enough that they said "I didn't know she could sing" (because I have ~never~ sang in front of people like that before). It was wonderful. I was an alto last year (soprano 2 this year) and this was a very high solo, so my teacher pointed that out to the class. "She went from being an alto last year to that." Aaaugh it was so awesome.

I won't know who gets the solo until at least Friday...possibly next Tuesday. It's possible I won't get it, or I could be an understudy. That would suck, but I am so glad I went for it. Mommy's been bugging me about it all year ("you've never tried out for a solo!"). I'm hopeful.

So yeah. Brittany had a good day.
